9. The Greyhound Is a Great Low-Maintenance Pet

Against popular belief based on their racing heritage, Greyhounds are surprisingly low-maintenance and incredibly flexible family friends. Although their great speed might point to high-energy needs, these ancient sighthounds are great house pets because of their superbly balanced demeanour. Their delicate and pleasant attitude complements their mild, non-aggressive character to provide a companion that fits very well in family life. These sophisticated dogs fit many different living patterns since they show a great capacity to switch between spurts of energy and quiet rest. Their independent spirit shows in sporadic need for isolation, but this self-sufficiency increases their attractiveness as low-maintenance dogs. Although they do need access to areas where they may run and exercise safely, their daily care needs are rather low compared to many other breeds. Their short coats and naturally tidy demeanour help to further support their reputation as easy household dogs.
