6.The Scottish Deerhound Won't Make a Lot of Noise

The Scottish Deerhound is a wonderful example of the potential for a big dog that blends elegance with low maintenance requirements. Historically referred to as the "Royal Dog of Scotland," these magnificent animals strike the ideal mix of scale and handling. Their rather low-maintenance character is hidden by their amazing height—up to 32 inches at the shoulder. Although they do need regular exercise to stay healthy and happy, their inside behaviour is shockingly calm and tranquil. Originally raised for hunting the large wild red deer in the Scottish Highlands, these dogs evolved a naturally peaceful demeanour that still exists today. Despite their size, their hunting background has given them natural ability to move discreetly, which makes them great flat mates. Although their exercise needs are not very great, they love lengthy walks and sporadic chance to gallop in safe surroundings. Their ability to move naturally from energetic outdoor activities to become wonderfully quiet interior friends appeals especially to me. Particularly for those who value a dog that combines aristocratic bearing with a subdued, quiet presence, their kind and dignified temperament makes them great house members. These sighthounds also show amazing adaptation, varying their energy level to fit their surroundings and family way of life.
