Beginner's Guide: Easy-to-Learn Nail Art Techniques

7. Gradient and Ombre Effects

For novices, gradient nail art produces amazing effects that seem complicated but are doable. Start with two or three complimentary colors. As a base coat, apply the lightest shade and let it to totally dry. Dab on next colors with a makeup sponge, gently overlapping each shade. Practice your gradient on paper to hone color location and mixing before applying to nails. For simpler clean-up, cover surrounding skin with liquid latex or petroleum jelly. For improved color transition, put several thin layers over the sponge. Finish with a glossy top coat to improve the gradient look and smooth any sponging-related texture.
