6. Quantum Dot Surveillance Tags

These minuscule markers use quantum dot technology to provide almost invisible monitoring capability. Measuring mere nanometres in size, the dots can be used on surfaces or objects and remain invisible to the unaided eye but emit distinct spectral signals at particular wavelengths of light. Without conventional tracking devices, this technique lets goods be covertly tracked and authenticated. The quantum dots may be programmed with unique IDs for many uses and are quite robust, lasting years without degrading.
