Comprising microscopic sensors scattered over an area for total monitoring, these new surveillance gadgets are the height of miniaturisation. By means of a mesh network, the sensors exchange security alarms and real-time environmental data. Although individual sensors fail, their self-organising capacity guarantees consistent coverage; their minuscule size makes them almost impossible to find.
