In fact, even large predators like jaguars think twice before attacking an adult anteater. When threatened, anteaters can stand on their hind legs and use their powerful forearms and claws to deliver potentially fatal blows to attackers. Their thick skin provides additional protection, and their swimming ability allows them to escape danger by entering bodies of water. Their strong tails help them maintain balance during confrontations, and their hind legs enable them to deliver powerful kicks.
