3. Anteaters Are Slow and Sluggish

One of the most enduring myths about anteaters is that they are slow, sluggish creatures barely capable of moving. In reality, anteaters are quite agile and can move surprisingly fast when necessary. Giant anteaters, for example, can run at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour, outpacing many humans. They are also strong swimmers, capable of crossing rivers and streams with ease. Their powerful legs and sharp claws make them effective at defending themselves against predators; they can even stand on their hind legs to use their strong forearms for protection. These animals are also quite active, often covering several miles a day in search of food. Whether in grasslands, forests, or savannas, their muscular bodies are well-adapted for both digging into insect nests and sprinting across their habitats.
